Joe was born in California and raised in Virginia. After his high school graduation, he was diagnosed with a rare joint disease called PVNS that was affecting his left ankle. He chose to amputate instead of ankle fusion, and has now trained with the Adaptive Action Sports team, competed in a USASA Boardercross competition, NORAM and IPC competitions, was on the 2019 Paralympic Snowboard World Championship Team for Phya, Finland and qualified for the 2019-2020 U.S. Paralympic National Snowboarding team this summer 2019.
