Cable Industry Organization Adadptive Spirit Honored By Disabled Sports USA

Subtitle: Long Running Cable Organization Named 2013 Recipient of the Dr. Bob Harney Leadership Award

In a special ceremony last Saturday evening in Breckenridge, CO, Adaptive Spirit was honored by Disabled Sports USA with their Dr. Bob Harney Leadership Award.  The award is a tremendous honor for the prominent cable event formerly known as SkiTAM. 

"The award is a great honor for our organization," said Steve Raymond, Chairman of the Board of Adaptive Spirit.  "To have the hard work of our volunteers, not to mention the continued support of the cable industry, recognized by such a premiere organization in the adaptive sports world is a wonderful and welcome endorsement."

DSUSA was formed in 1967 to provide national leadership and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop independence, confidence and fitness through participation in community sports, recreation and educational programs. Each year they serve over 60,000 youth, wounded warriors and adults through a nationwide network of 110 community-based chapters in 37 states nationwide in 30 different sports.

“Dr. Bob” Harney was a pioneer in creating an International system of medical classification for disabled athletes and a leader in the Paralympic movement for many years.  DSUSA created the Dr. Bob Harney Leadership award to recognize individuals and groups that have made a difference in supporting the adaptive sports community. 

Adaptive Spirit will celebrate its 19^th Annual Event April 3 – 6, 2014 in Vail, CO.  Over the course of the event's history, the event has grown ten times in attendee size and has raised over $7 million in support of the U.S. Paralympics Alpine, Snowboard and Nordic Teams.

The event is also well known to many in the industry as a rare combination of both networking and business opportunities coupled with the opportunity to give back to those who depend upon outside funding to realize their Paralympic dreams.
